About the artist

Bailey “B” Kennedy (she/they) is a contemporary painter and screen printer based in Durham, North Carolina. She started painting and drawing as soon as she was old enough to grip a brush, learned screen printing from their father at the age of 16, and in 2018 she graduated from the University of North Carolina - Wilmington where she studied studio art and business.

In 2019 B discovered their passion for screen printing when working as a graphic designer and apparel printer for K5 Sewing Co. and Big Frog Custom Tees. She now designs and prints by hand an original line of colorful and inclusive apparel - you can shop the collection here!

When painting, B uses sensual color palettes and textural details as well as painterly effects to create abstract works that stimulate viewers’ imaginations. When screen printing, B combines brights hues and graphic linework to create whimsical and fun pieces of clothing you can’t find anywhere else. B also dabbles in mixed media collage, photography, and paper-making. When she isn’t painting or printing you can find her gardening, listening to music, or cuddling with her cat Athena.

“My romance with paint and color leads me to create imaginary maps and scenes that use strong palettes and painterly effects to stimulate the senses of those who view my work. The way the mind creates imagery and meaning from this alone is fascinating to me, and one of my favorite reasons for creating.” - B Kennedy, on her “Mapstract” series
